The story behind the steam
Tea is how we thrive.
I grew up watching the beautiful women in my family brew tea and make treats like it was a love language—tastefully slow, deliberately healing, and full of intention. Although some were coffee connoisseurs, we carried that loving ritual with us from Virginia to New York. The Steep is my way of carrying it forward and sharing its purpose: connecting with customers who become community.
Our mission
The Steep exists to share selective teas, explore cultures, experience communities, and connect with every person who pulls up a chair — one cup at a time.
Share
Tea is meant to be poured for someone else. Every cup made is an act of giving — warmth, time, and a little piece of the world it came from.
Explore
From Fujian to West Africa to your neighborhood corner — each blend is a passport. Steep's aim is to source teas that carry real stories from real places. The books enhance the cultural explorations.
Experience
The Steep isn't just a tea drink. It's an invitation, a ritual, a pause, a moment when you feel included and valued. We want every cup to be something you enjoy and remember.
Connect
Strangers become neighbors; customers become friends over a shared cup. That's the point. The Steep moves around so the community can grow, learn, and share. Kindness matters.
One cup at a time.
I built The Steep because I believe a cup of tea can do what so little else can — slow a stranger down, open a conversation, and make a sidewalk feel like a living room. I bring thoughtfully sourced teas and small rituals to the places people already gather. The teacup is the invitation. The tea blend is just the beginning of conversation and community.
Steep slowly
Never rush a brew — and never rush a chat. Some of the best exchanges happen while waiting for the water to cool just enough.
Sit awhile
The teacup is my way of saying: you don't have to be anywhere else right now. Put the phone down. Look up. Someone interesting is probably standing/sitting right next to you.
Share what travels with you
Every blend I pour carries a place, a person, a memory. Feel free to share those stories alongside the tea — because that's what makes a cup mean something to you and me.
Tea · Books · Culture · Community
Every cup carries a world.
One of the things I love most about tea is that it belongs to everyone. The gongfu ceremonies of Fujian, the spiced chai of Mumbai street stalls, the hibiscus-red blends in Jamaican homes, the citrus-fruit and honey teas my grandmother made for me, the mint-bright atay poured high in Moroccan courtyards — every tradition carries the same message: sit down, stay a moment, you are welcome here. I built The Steep to honor all of it.

A cup and a chapter.
I've always believed that books and tea belong together. Every Steep event carries a small traveling library — titles I love, titles that have moved me, or titles that spark something. Feel free to browse while your cup cools. If something calls to you, read a few pages. Stories belong in circulation, just like good ideas and discussions. Share what characters and cultures resonate with you.
The shelf rotates with every stop. Ask me what's in the stack — I love talking about what I'm reading.
